Missouri Learner’s Permit
Every year the number of accidents involving teen drivers increases. It is this alarming statistic that has prompted Missouri to implement Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program. Under the program there are a number of milestone that teens need to achieve before they obtain an unrestricted driver’s license. Obtaining your instruction permit is the first milestone on your path to a Missouri driver’s license.
Learner’s Permit in Missouri
You must be at least 15 years to be eligible to apply for a learner’s permit in the state of Missouri. To apply, visit the State Highway Patrol driver examination station with the following documents:
- Proof of identity
- Proof of Social Security Number
- Proof of Missouri residency
- Proof of consent from your parents
- Take a vision exam
- Pass a road sign recognition exam
- Pass the written permit
- Pay the $3.50 permit fee
While holding your Missouri learner’s permit you must always drive under supervision of a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old. In addition, you must have your learner’s permit in your possession while driving and all occupants of the vehicle must wear seatbelts.
Intermediate Driver’s License
You can only be eligible to apply for an intermediate Missouri driver’s license if you are at least 16 years old, furthermore, you must take a behind-the-wheel road test. You must meet the following requirement to obtain your intermediate driver’s license: You must have held your learner’s permit for more than six months, while holding your learners permit you must not have been involve in moving, alcohol, or drug violations and you must not have any alcohol-related convictions in the past 1 year.
If it is more than one year since you took the written and vision exam for your instruction permit, you will be required to retake them at your local State Highway Patrol examination station before you obtain your intermediate driver’s license.
To apply, visit your local MO driver license office with the following documents:
- Your learner’s permit
- A completed application form, it must be signed by your parents
- Proof of completion for your required behind-the-wheel driving hours
- Proof of name, birth date, and birthplace
- Proof of Social Security number
- Proof of Missouri residency
- Payment for the $7.50 license fee
You will also need to bring Missouri vehicle registration and proof of insurance for the vehicle you will use to take the road test.
