Your Virginia driving record contains information about your driving history over a specific period of time, and provides details about your traffic violations (including DUI), suspensions, accidents and more. The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is responsible for keeping and issuing of driving records.  The Virginia DMV offers different driving records which include: Personal use driving record, Employment driving record, Insurance driving record and Habitual offender restoration driving record.

You can order your Virginia driving record by mail, online or in person. To order your driving record online, visit the Virginia MyDMV Online System. You will need to provide your Social Security number (SSN) or customer number listed on your VA driver’s license and the required fee. To order in person, visit your local Virginia DMV office with a completed Virginia Information Request (Form CRD 93), proof of identification (Virginia driver’s license or VA photo identification card) and the required payment.  To order by mail, you will need a completed Virginia Information Request (Form CRD 93) or a written request that has your name, Social Security number, address and the reason why you are requesting for your driving record. Mail your completed form and payment to:

The state does not offer free driving record for free. The following are the fees for obtaining your driving record:

  • Uncertified, ordered in person or by mail: $8.
  • Uncertified, ordered online: $7.
  • Certified: additional $5 fee.
