You can order for your driving record through the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) and see a history of your time on the roads. By monitoring your driving record you can track your violations, verify that all information is correct and monitor for possible identity theft. There are two types of driving records in Maryland, the 3-year driving record which is a complete driving record and the probation before judgment (PBR) driving record.

In Maryland, you can only order for a copy of your driving record in person or online. To order for your driving record in person, you have to complete a request for motor vehicle administration records by filling form DR-057 and submit it to the nearest MVA office with the application fee. For a certified driving record the charges are $12 and for a non-certified driving record the charges are $9. Payments can be made via cash, credit card or check. To order online, you have to visit the MVA website and follow the instructions. Make sure you provide a valid address because the driving record will be mailed to the address provided. Looking up a free driving record can be done with the form above.

Maryland law does not allow disclosure of private information from your driving record. The private information includes: your name, address, driver’s license number, date of birth and social security number. However, the following information is open to the public: your driving status, driving violations in the past 3 years, any car accident information, and your car’s vehicle identification number (VIN), your insurance company, your insurance policy number and the odometer reading on your car. Therefore, anyone with your name and date of birth or driver’s license number can submit a request for a non-certified driving record.
